JEE Advanced 2026 aspirants are now eagerly waiting for the official cut off announcement following the completion of the entrance exam. Meanwhile, paper difficulty level, previous year trend and expert analysis has started doing rounds of category-wise expected cut off scores. These projected cut offs might aid candidates to assess their prospects of qualifying for IIT admissions and prepare for the upcoming counselling procedure.

The cut off analysis which is expected is very significant for the candidates belonging to General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST and PwD categories since the admission eligibility in JEE Advanced is highly dependent on the category wise qualifying marks. “It may differ slightly depending on the final difficulty level of Paper 1 and Paper 2 along with overall student performance,” education experts think.

How JEE Advanced Cut Off Is Calculated

JEE Advanced cut-off depends on various criteria including difficulty level of the exam, number of students appearing for the exam, number of seats in IITs and overall performance trend. The qualifying marks are announced for each reservation group separately.

The last cutoff decides the eligible applicants for JoSAA counselling and IIT entrance processes.

Factor

Impact on Cut Off

Exam Difficulty

Harder paper may reduce cut off

Student Performance

Higher scores may increase cut off

Available IIT Seats

Admission competition level

JEE Advanced 2026 Expected Category-Wise Cut Off Marks

As per the expert projections and analysis of the previous year, the projected qualifying cut off marks for several categories might remain in the following range. These numbers are unofficial and subject to change following the formal announcement.

Category

Expected Qualifying Marks

Expected Percentage

General

85–95 Marks

Around 35%

OBC-NCL

75–85 Marks

Around 31%

EWS

78–88 Marks

Around 32%

SC

45–55 Marks

Around 18%

ST

40–50 Marks

Around 17%

PwD

35–45 Marks

Lower qualifying range

Why Expected Cut Off Trends Matter for Students

The expected cut off marks allow the candidates to evaluate whether they are likely to go through the IIT counselling rounds or not. Students get to estimate their scores, compare them with the answer keys and know their chances of admission before the announcement of the final results.

This early analysis assists students in strategizing backup entrance choices in the event that their expected score does not meet the forecasted qualifying range.

Estimate the likelihood of IIT admission

Get ready for JoSAA counselling

Category Level of competition

Arrange other methods of entry

Less uncertainty before outcomes

How Difficulty Level May Affect Final Cut Off

Some students said that there was moderate level of difficulty in some parts of JEE Advanced 2026, especially in Physics and Mathematics. If the total paper difficulty is officially regarded to be higher than that of previous years, the final qualifying cut off may drop a little.

However, if a large number of candidates score well despite the difficulty of the paper, the cut off may continue to be competitive.

What Happens After the Official Cut Off Release

Shortlisted candidates are eligible for JoSAA counselling process after the declaration of final cut off. After that, students would have to go through registration, choice filling, seat allotment and document verification process for IIT admission.

Next Admission Stage

Purpose

JoSAA Registration

Counseling participation

Choice Filling

Select IIT and courses

Seat Allotment

Admission offer process

Document Verification

Final admission approval

Important Advice for JEE Advanced Candidates

Candidates should not rely on unofficial estimations as the official cutoff may vary post the final examination. Students are advised to keep a close watch on the official JEE Advanced website for information on answer keys, results, cut offs and counselling sessions.

Always check official answer keys twice.

Accurate score forecast

Stay Updated Only Follow Official Updates

Develop further counselling materials

Back-up college options prepared

JEE Advanced 2026 category-wise cut off marks are providing an early indication to the applicants about their chances of qualifying for the IIT even before the official result is announced. The projected marks are based on the analysis of the experts and the patterns in the previous years but the final qualifying marks will be determined on the difficulty level of the papers and the overall performance of the students.
